Mr. Akhtar, jointly with Mr. Adee of Kent & Canterbury hospital, carried out a complex emergency operation on my Bowel system on the evening of 19 April of this year. Mr. Akhtar took the time to speak to me immediately before the operation to explain the severity of the operation. He also visited me on more than one occasion on the ward after the operation. I appreciated that he took time to properly explain my condition during recovery and the likely timescale of my hospital stay. I was in hospital for 3 weeks, and during that time always believed that I was in good hands.

I had never met Mr. Akhtar until the day of my operation and I was very nervous. Mr. Akhtar what he intended to do and that it was new slant on this particular operation and asked me if I would agree for him to proceed. I have a problem with anaesthetic and he was present when the Anaesthetist came to see me,when they left I felt safe and reassured. Mr Akhtar was there when I came to and told me everything had been a success. The amazing thing was that returning to the Ward I was pain free plus no nausea or sickness, the only painkillers that were needed were tablets. Mr. Akhtar explained everything fully and made sure that I fully understood. He is kind, considerate and I would like to reassure anyone waiting for surgery by Mr.Akhtar that they couldn't be in safer hands.

This kind and gentle man performed my surgery and in spite of warnings about possible problems the surgery was successful. The whole colorectal and nursing teams were attentive and sympathetic I cannot fault the care. I would particularly like to mention Toni the specialist nurse and both Mr Hamade and Mr Mansoor Akhtar for their professionalism. After many years of misery and latterly two housebound years I now have my old life back and feel ten years younger. Thank you all.

I saw Dr Akhtar after being diagnosed with bowel cancer, I have never been to hospital before (apart From A&E) and was somewhat nervous at the prospect of surgery. Dr Akhtar explained everything very well to me and put me at ease over the prospect of my forthcoming operation. I am very pleased that the operation went well and I am now back at home recovering. I cannot praise the doctor enough for everything he has done for me. I would also like to thank all the staff at the QEQM hospital in Margate who looked after me, I honestly believe that I could not have had better care anywhere Mr John Thirst
